Brief Tourism FAQ in English
This brief FAQ has been designed to answer some basic questions about tourism and Versailles.
III - Visiting The City Of Versailles

Staying In Versailles
You'll find accommodation to suit every budget - from a campground (see "V - Miscellaneous Questions" in this tourism FAQ) to a luxury hotel. Any good, up to date guidebook will give its list of preferred establishments. The Versailles Tourist Office has literature from most of the hotels in and around Versailles.
Versailles nightlife is quite definitely unlike Paris nightlife. Besides, after a long day touring the castle and the gardens (the castle and the gardens are vast), you'll probably want to retire early. There are a some cinemas and a few late-opening cafés and bars, if you really want to go out.

Eating In Versailles
You'll find nourishment to suit every budget and taste - from MacDonald's to Michelin-starred
restaurants, from Oriental restaurants to Pizza Huts. There are superettes and mom-and-pop foodstores all over town.
Tip: some small grocery shops are open until 23h00 or so. They're a bit more expensive than the superettes but hey! they're open when you need them !
Another tip: the bread and pastries in Versailles are generally excellent; we think that they are much better than in most cities in France. We think it's because there is a lot of competition here.
If the weather is nice, we feel that there is nothing better than picking up a few varieties of cheese, a freshly-baked "baguette" or "pain"from the bakery and some good wine to make up an impromptu picnic at the Pièce d'Eau des Suisses (Swiss Pond), about one hundred meters from the Orangerie. Note that this is the ONLY place on the Chateau property where picnicking is allowed.

Banking In Versailles
You'll find major banks all around Versailles. None of them are open on Sundays, with the exception of the CCF (see "V - Miscellaneous Questions" in this tourism FAQ). Some are open on Saturdays (and thus closed Mondays). We advise you to stay away from any alleged moneychangers who might accost you in or near tourist areas.
